FLEECES, FARMERS, FASHION – SHEEPVENTION 2019
EMILY RIGGS
Sheepvention is the largest agricultural show in Victoria attracting over 25,000 visitors each year to the one-of-a-kind event. Executed by the Hamilton Pastoral and Agricultural Society, Sheepvention 2019 kicks off this Sunday, bringing together farmers, fleece and fashion enthusiasts for the three-day event.
Event attendees will enjoy exciting displays and activities including the highly anticipated ram sale, some of the region’s finest food, entertainment for all ages and world class fashion celebrating the championed fibre, merino wool. Prior to commencement of Sheepvention the prestigious Wool Monarch award is attributed to an individual who has promoted the industry extensively, it’s always a highly anticipated announcement and an incredible honour for the lucky recipient.
Exhibitors at this year’s event include a collection of Media Stringers, including Jackie Elliot, organiser of a highly anticipated new event, Rural Women’s Day. Jackie will be exhibiting at site 21 in the Home Paddock Pavilion to promote her event which aspires to connect rural and regional women of the Western District on October 15 in Dunkeld.
I’m also looking forward to exhibiting and will be located at the Market Place site 33 to showcase my fashion label Iris + Wool. I’m married to a merino sheep producer and my love of wool and passion for the superior quality of wool produced in Australia inspired me to create the label which is one hundred per cent Australian Merino Wool. It was only natural that I chose the fabulous fibre as the basis of my label and it gives me great pleasure to be the designer and Director of a fashion line that I pour my heart and soul into.
I hope to see you at Sheepvention for three days of celebrating farm to fashion!
