creation in isolation
by jessica howard - queensland based media stringer
From the golden haze of a wheat harvest in Southern Victoria to the dusty shearing sheds of Far Western Queensland, a new rural photography collective is transporting audiences into the sometimes gritty, but always beautiful Australian bush.
The Beauty in the Bush Collective has members in far-flung parts of the country.
From Caramut in South West Victoria and Katherine in the Northern Territory; to Cowra in Western New South Wales and Einasleigh in North Queensland. Their work is just as diverse: ranging from commercial, lifestyle and travel photography, but there’s a common thread that weaves through each of their images, and it’s the love and passion they feel for rural Australia.
The Collective began to assemble a year ago during Covid-19 as cancelled shoots and home-schooling loomed. Many of the members live hundreds of kilometres from town on sheep and cattle properties so are well-versed in the isolation that followed, but they revelled in the creativity it afforded. Social media helped connect them, allowing them to share each other’s work
The group aims to reveal stunning perspectives on what it means to be a creative working in rural Australia. You can follow its journey on Instagram @beautyinthebushcollective.
